Most Valuable Lego Sets of All Time

By

December 29, 2024

Who doesn’t love Legos, those familiar colored plastic pieces that fit together to build anything? Lego, a Danish company, has been making the popular toy since 1958. Even in this digital era, Legos have held their popularity with both children and adults. And today, Legos are sold in over 140 countries.

The company has continued to innovate its popular build-it-yourself kits, offering limited edition designs and tie-ins to popular movies and TV shows. Rare Legos in mint condition become valuable collectors' items and command top dollar. A brand-new, sealed Lego set can be worth up to 10 times as much as one that has been opened.

Just remember, values can fluctuate pretty fast in the Lego market. Prices that once were way up might go down. These are the most expensive Lego sets. If you can find them.

40. Joker Manor

Lego Joker Manor

eBay

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $600

Average sale price today for unopened set: $500

Average asking price for vintage used set: $409

Average sale price today for used set: $347

Year released: 2017

Set number: 70922

Note: We've ranked Lego set prices by using a combination of data from BrickLink, value estimates from BrickEconomy, what people are paying for them on eBay, and other noted price estimates. Asking prices and today's sale prices are from BrickLink, unless otherwise noted. This is a loose ranking, as prices can significantly increase or decrease over time.

Bottom Line: Joker Manor

Joker Manor Lego set

eBay

Joker Manor is a huge, 3,444-piece set modeled after Joker's lair from "The Lego Batman Movie."

The Manor comes with its own roller-coaster system and was the fifth-largest Lego set of 2017.

It originally sold for $270, meaning it has doubled in price over just four years.

39. The Tumbler: Joker's Ice Cream Surprise

Lego Batman Joker's Ice Cream Surprise

eBay

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $790

Average sale price today for unopened set: $361

Average sale price today for used set: $187

Year released: 2008

Set number: 7888-1

Bottom Line: Joker's Ice Cream Surprise

Lego Batman Joker's Ice Cream Surprise

eBay

The Batman Lego lineup that released around the same times as the Nolan films from the mid-2000s was pretty dang cool.

The Tumbler is straight out of the movie, while Joker's ice cream truck is a Lego imagination.

If you're lucky, you can get this set for less than $400 at auction. ToyWiz has it for sale at $670.

38. Motorized Bulldozer

Lego Technic Motorized Bulldozer

fr0nz65 / eBay

Average sale price today for used set: $201

Set number: 8275

Bottom Line: Motorized Bulldozer

Lego Motorized Bulldozer

eBay

If you like heavy machinery, you'll love this motorized bulldozer.

Not only are Technic sets authentic-looking, but they give you some extra parts and stickers for extra builds.

A vintage, unopened model in the box could get you $800.

37. Ninjago City

Ninjago City

Lego / Amazon

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $955

Average sale price today for unopened set: $613

Average asking price for vintage used set: $718

Average sale price today for used set: $549

Year released: 2017

Set number: 70620

Bottom Line: Ninjago City

Ninjago City Lego set

Lego / Amazon

Released in 2017 and comprised of 4,867 pieces, Ninjago City retailed for $300 and came with 16 minifigures and a sliding elevator to connect the set's three levels.

This huge playset measures two feet high and sixteen inches deep and has multiple interactive features, like a sushi conveyor belt and a swiveling crab oven.

This was the flagship of "The Lego Ninjago Movie" line and is still an extremely popular set. It now commands a price triple of that when it first hit the market.

36. Volkswagen Beetle

Lego VW Beetle

eBay

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $1,040

Average sale price today for unopened set: $533

Average asking price for vintage used set: $450

Average sale price today for used set: $428

Year released: 2008

Set number: 10187

Bottom Line: Volkswagen Beetle

Lego VW Beetle

eBay

This Lego car is one of the more sought-after sculptures that Lego has made in the last 15 years.

We're not entirely sure what makes this one so expensive, but we'd wager that it has to do with the Volkswagen Beetle having a cult following, and that this 1,626-piece set would look quite good on display.

35. Cloud City

Star Wars Cloud City Lego

eBay

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $1,129

Average sale price today for unopened set: $1,411

Average asking price for vintage used set: $1,300

Average sale price today for used set: $782

Year released: 2003

Set number: 10123

Bottom Line: Cloud CIty

Star Wars Cloud City Lego

eBay

Cloud City has a strange price on BrickLink, which has several sets listed for below $20 in 2020. Which is odd, because you'll never find this set for that price.

BrickEconomy has the average price for a new, sealed set at $1,500, which is more in line with what we've seen sell on eBay.

34. Rebel Snowspeeder

Rebel Snowspeeder

Lego

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $1,112

Average sale price today for unopened set: $500

Average asking price for vintage used set: $659

Average sale price today for used set: $421

Year released: 2003

Set number: 10129

Bottom Line: Rebel Snowspeeder

Lego Star Wars Rebel Snowspeeder

uwgq7151 / eBay

One of the numerous "Star Wars" movie tie-in kits, the snowspeeders were the small orange and white fighter ships that the Rebel Alliance flew in battle in the movie "The Empire Strikes Back."

One reason for the high value of this limited-edition speeder (which launched with a retail price of $200) was the designers’ attention to small details: the correct angle of the lasers, detailed controls in the cockpit and power-coupling stickers.

The snowspeeder often goes on sale for over $1,000, but usually sells for less. Brinklink has only one recorded sale in 2020 for an unused item for $500, while BrickEconomy has the worth of a new snowspeeder pegged at over $1,120.

33. Ultimate Collectors Y-Wing Attack Starfighter

Lego Y-Wing Attack Starfighter

Average sale price today for unopened set: $545

Year released: 2004

Set number: 10134

Bottom Line: Ultimate Collectors Y-Wing Attack Starfighter

Lego Y-Wing Attack Starfighter

jedi1819 / eBay

The Y-Wing Attack Starfighter is a 1,485-part Star Wars set that came out in 2004 but is modeled after the ship from the original trilogy.

It's a very impressive ship with tons of great details and a nice stand. It's one of the less popular UCS sets, but that's probably because the Y-Wing isn't nearly as famous as the X-Wing.

32. Minifigure Sculpture

Lego Minifigure 3723

eBay

Average asking price for vintage unopened set: $1,157

Average sale price today for unopened set: $1,364

Average asking price for vintage used set: $401

Average sale price today for used set: $387

Year released: 2000

Set number: 3723

Bottom Line: Minifigure Sculpture

Lego Minifigure 3723

eBay

What's a better ode to your Lego collection than a huge Lego statue of a Lego minifigure? This guy stands 20 inches tall and is made up of 1,849 pieces. It was made in 2000 and has since been retired.

Most of these you'll find used, and several have sold for not much higher than its original $140 retail price. But if you can find one new in the box, they're much more expensive.

Expect to pay around $1,100 for a Lego minifigure sculpture in good condition.

31. Ultimate Collectors Imperial Shuttle

The finished castle has battlements, a tower, a gate, a drawbridge, a jail cell, a hidden trap and a treasure room. It also has figures of knights, guards, a princess and a glow-in-the-dark ghost.

The princess’s skirt used Lego’s brand-new slope brick as part of the design.

Reviewers rave about the set's size, saying it's much larger than you might expect.

Lego periodically makes small replicas of the company’s trademark blue-hulled ships with the name, Maersk Line, written in black on the sides.

Used ones have popped up for sale on eBay for $1,000, but there's not enough data available to determine how much their market value is.

Once built, Lego’s Grand Carousel plays music while the carousel figures move up and down, just like a real merry-go-round. The kit contains a Power Functions motor and a "sound brick" to make this possible.

The kit has over 3,000 pieces, nine figures and was targeted at teen and adult Lego enthusiasts.

The top of the carousel is even made of canvas.

Lego Millennium Falcon

eBay

Even at the time of its release, this Star Wars tie-in set was one of the most expensive Lego had ever produced, retailing for $500. Millennium Falcon 10179 is ranked as the third-largest set ever made by Lego, with over 5,000 separate pieces and a 311-page instruction manual. For a while there, it was selling for $4,000.

The kit includes figures of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Lego sold a limited number of first edition versions that came with a special certificate of authenticity, which makes them even more valuable.

This was heralded as the most expensive Lego set ever just a few years ago. Sometimes you can find it for $1,200 on eBay, other times the price shoots up to nearly $4,000 again.

Lego Airport Shuttle Monorail

eBay

The Airport Shuttle was released in 1990, as part of the Town Airport series, and features two battery-powered rail cars that run on a looping track. Each car has a separate compartment for the driver.

The kit also includes two ground-level waiting stations, complete with seating, phone booth, lockboxes, street lamps and a hamburger stand. Nine minifigures are included.

Lego outsourced production of the monorail tracks to another company, which went bankrupt and the tools to make the tracks were lost, so no more monorail sets could be made, which makes this set especially valuable. This set is exceedingly rare to find new in a box.

Moulding Machines

BrickEconomy

This Moulding Machines is a 795-piece set that depicts the very plastic-injection molding machines that Lego uses to make its bricks.

But why is it so expensive? Because 4000001 was given out, for free, to those who attended the Lego Inside Tour in May 2011. Only 68 were made.

This is one of the rarest Lego set ever made and almost never goes up on sale. One person on a popular Lego forum, Euro Bricks, said they opened their Lego tour gift because they didn't believe it would sell.

They may have been wrong. One signed by Lego designer Melody Louise Caddick went up on eBay for $10,000 in June 2020. It sold after the seller accepted the best offer.
