The typical rent in America is $1,530, according to the most recent HotPads rent report. But these penthouses, condos, summer homes and mansions rentals are so expensive that $1,530 might be enough to rent some closet space. If you’re lucky.
We looked all around the country for the most expensive and available rentals on the market in each state (plus Washington, D.C). In doing so, we avoided daily and weekend rentals, commercial buildings, corporate retreats and specialized use rentals (like horse barns and farms). And we used publicly searchable databases, so private listings or “whisper” listings may have gone under the radar, so it’s entirely possible there are even more expensive rentals out there if you have the right connections.
