Most Valuable Barbie Accessories and Memorabilia

Barbies have been big business for Mattel since 1959. The dolls on their own are highly valuable and still loved and collected by generations of people around the world. 

But Barbie and her doll cohorts have spawned a veritable cottage industry of accessories and memorabilia as well — and they, too, can be worth a pretty penny. These are the most expensive Barbie accessories that have sold in recent months. 

10. Barbie Dream House

Sold for: $699.99

Bottom line: The Barbie Dream House of the 1960s (and its furniture) was made of cardboard. To find one from that era in perfect shape is exceptionally rare, as they were played with until they essentially fell apart. 

An eBayer sold one that had never been played with in mid-October 2022. Even with some age spots, a "mirror" with some slight indentations and a little tape damage, it sold for about $700.

9. 'Swan Lake' Musical Fantasy Castle

Sold for: $824.99

Bottom line: As the decades passed, Barbie homes were made from a sturdier plastic and got more elaborate in general. Nevertheless, they were played with religiously, and their parts often broke.

This 2003 Musical Fantasy Castle was still in its original packing with all parts intact. 

8. Original Silhouette Box

Sold for: $898.44

Bottom line: You can see by this very item how serious Barbie collectors are. Just the box from 1958, which has a little rip on its top life side, sold for nearly $900 in October 2022.

Again, this is only the box — it once held a "Solo in the Spotlight" Barbie. 

7. Straw Tote Bag

Sold for: $1,136

Bottom line: This tiny straw tote dates back to 1959. The "Suburban Shopper No. 2" is one of four sample items of the bag made by Mattel. 

The company went with an easier, less labor-intensive design on the fourth try. This one comes complete with colorful fruits and veggies inside. 

6. MCM Furniture

Sold for: $1,190

Bottom line: As we know, mid-century modern furniture is highly collectible for real people in real homes these days, so to find it for a doll house is even rarer.

This cool set made by Mattel in 1958 shows everything old is new again. Imagine this set if it were life-sized!

5. 'Hot Dogs' Clothing with Dog

Sold for: $1,800.57

Bottom line: The perfect look for fall! The doll isn't included, but this very cute 1972 outfit comes complete with a plaid jacket, red shorts, green tights, a knit hat, above-the-knee knit socks, brown boots and a purse.

The dog (an Afghan hound) comes complete with a collar and leash.

4. Barbie Clutch

Sold for: $2,500

Bottom line: Barbie bags have been around for a long time and are very popular. Most are not too expensive.

This vintage purple floral bag has a clasp that harkens back to the 1960s, but it may have been made later. Nevertheless, it is from the last century and, according to the seller, is "one of a kind."

3. 'Roman Holiday' Outfit

Sold for: $3,050

Bottom line: "Roman Holiday" was released in 1953, starring Audrey Hepburn. This outfit of the same name was featured in the 1959 Barbie catalog. 

This set comes with the original dress, coat, hat, purse, gloves, shoes, sunglasses in the case, necklace, comb and bronze compact, and the legendary powder puff. 

2. Barbie and Ken Comic Book

Sold for: $3,346

Bottom line: Comic books are fun collectibles, and Barbie and Ken did have a story that began in 1962, courtesy of Dell Publishing. 

There have been reprints of this comic since, but this is the original. In mint condition, it fetched a pretty penny. 

1. Unopened Magical Mansion

Sold for: $4,000

Bottom line: This Barbie "Magical Mansion," released in 1990, has never been opened. So, the mansion has never been put together, which means it's never been played with.
