Most of us grew up playing board games with our friends and family, and even in the digital age, many of us still do. According to Research and Markets, the market size for board games in 2023 is $12 billion. Games like Red Cathedral and Heat are leading the way, but the oldies like Monopoly still hold places in our hearts.

You may have some of these older board games tucked away and forgotten in an attic or basement, or have come across them in thrift stores. What you may not realize is that quite a few of these old board games can be valuable. Some games can sell for thousands of dollars, especially if they are in good condition, with all of the playing pieces intact. These vintage and antique board games recently sold for top dollar.

Inflation was one of the first Monoply-esque games invented. It was very popular back when it came out in the mid-1970s, and it's very hard to come by today.

Intended for two to seven players, the game challenges you to trade and sell your way to a million dollars. It's more challenging than Monopoly, but just as fun.

The particular edition comes with all the pieces and very little wear and tear.

Players compete for natural resources, such as lumber, wool, brick or grain, and deal with accidents and incidents. Raiding the resources of other players and building roads, cities and settlements let a player accumulate points.

While the game involves strategy and planning, the players also create a storyline as they play. The Settlers of Catan won major game awards from 1995 to 2015.

The franchise also spawned two television films and three video games.

This board game was missing a few pieces, but it's still one of the most valuable on the market.

If you've never heard of Im Wintersportparadies, we don't blame you. It was published in 1934 by Otto Maier Verlag Ravensburg and designed and written by Walter Kahnert and Hubert Mumelter. The artwork is impressive to look at, but the game is written in German.

The exact rules need a formal translation, but the gist of it is as follows: The players move their piece by rolling the dice and traveling along a wintery path on the board. They can take part in up to four competitions, winning or losing money based on the outcome. Anyone who runs out of money is eliminated, and the last player remaining wins. Alternatively, if more than one player reaches the finish line, the one who has the most money wins.

The version up for sale likely has missing pieces, but it remains a fantastic addition for serious valuable board game collectors.

Remember "The Munsters"? The campy '60s TV show was a hit back in the day, and this extremely rare game was, too. Intended for children, this game is based on the traditional roll and move format and is similar to Candy Land. Players can lose turns or be sent back a few spaces when they land on certain spots.

Land on a "Pick a Party Card," and you'll have to draw a card, read it out loud and immediately follow the instructions. This usually involves silliness of some sort, like singing or making animal noises. Any player who refuses forfeits their next three turns. The first player to the finish line wins.

This particular edition was hand-signed by Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster.

A paper board game is then used to play a game with the assembled figures.

Fox and Geese is an old hunting game that dates back to the Middle Ages, or even earlier. It’s played on a cross-shaped board using pegs or marbles.

The single fox attempts to "kill" the geese by removing them from the board, while the geese attempt to trap the fox so he can’t move.

An English version of the game dating from 1830 is scarce and valuable.

Monopoly Atlantic City is the original game created by Charles Darrow. Loosely based on another popular game called "The Landlord Game," the board was modeled on the actual streets and real houses around Darrow’s house in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Only 5,000 copies of the original game were made, and only a few are known to survive. In 1935, Parker Brothers bought the game from Darrow and made it famous.

You’ll recognize Darrow’s distinctive early version if you happen to stumble across one in a thrift store or garage sale, as the board is circular.
